Eritrea II

Sat, 15 Nov 2025 – Tue, 18 Nov 2025

4 Days 3 Nights

About this expedition

Discover the timeless charm of Eritrea. Wander through Asmara and feel like you've stepped into another era, surrounded by stunning Art Deco architecture. Explore Massawa where cultures meet by the sea. These hidden corners of the Horn of Africa won’t stay secret for long—this might be a once-in-a-lifetime expedition!

Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival Day – Asmara

  • We will take a late evening flight on 15th November from Dubai to Asmara. Once we arrive, we’ll rest for the night and start early the next day with our expedition.
  • Overnight in Asmara

Day 1: Asmara

  • We start our expedition with a city tour of Asmara, the Eritrean capital—a city that seems frozen in time. Often called "Piccola Roma" (Little Rome), it holds a remarkable collection of Art Deco architecture, including the Roman Catholic Cathedral, St. Mary Coptic Church, Al Khulafa Al Rashedin Mosque, various markets (vegetable, spice, souvenir, Medeber), the National Museum, and the iconic Fiat Tagliero building, among others.
  • Overnight in Asmara

Day 2: Massawa

  • After breakfast, we’ll take a scenic drive downhill along the Ghinda road towards the port city of Massawa. The route passes through the lush “Green Belt” area, known for its beautiful landscapes and unique flora and fauna.
  • In the afternoon, we’ll explore Massawa—often referred to as the “City of Islands” and the “Pearl of the Red Sea.” This historic port city features Turkish-style architecture and charming old shopping arcades.
  • Overnight in Massawa

Day 3: Massawa & Asmara

  • After breakfast, we’ll visit Green Island in the Red Sea. Then, after lunch, we’ll return to Asmara. In the afternoon or evening, we’ll have a final walk around the capital before heading to the airport.
  • We will fly out late at night to Dubai or Cairo (for those continuing to our Ethiopia expedition).

What's included

  • Accomodation — Shared twin room in 3-star hotels (some of the best in Eritrea) on a bed and breakfast basis. (Except in Massawa, where breakfast is not included.)
  • Guides — Expert local guide and fixer.
  • Transport — Private vehicles, fuel and drivers
  • Visa Support — We'll help you prepare the visas for Eritrea
  • Activities and Tickets — Every visit, entrance ticket or activity is included.

Papua New Guinea I

The best way to see not only the Mt Hagen festival but also the highlights of the PNG highlands. Safe, exciting, and lots of fun.

Indian Himalayas & Bhutan

A spiritual and cultural-focussed expedition, not the typical style of other Wander trips, but I absolutely loved it. Bhutan is beautiful and this expedition was the best way to see it, the tricky visa and tour guide requirements were all handled and the itinerary gave the very best of the country in a few days. Northern India was equally serene and even as someone who hates hiking, having a great group to champion you along the way made it fun.

West Africa III

The best overland adventure you could ever ask for. Two weeks, 22 people, 6 cars, endless laughs. Sure, the days are long, and you definitely need to bring snacks, but it’s so much fun and the best way to see the parts of Africa that most people don’t go to! And it has everything - beach, nature, pool days, local communities, cities and middle-of-nowhere adventures. I’d even go as far as to say I’d do it again….. never say never!
