A spiritual and cultural-focussed expedition, not the typical style of other Wander trips, but I absolutely loved it. Bhutan is beautiful and this expedition was the best way to see it, the tricky visa and tour guide requirements were all handled and the itinerary gave the very best of the country in a few days. Northern India was equally serene and even as someone who hates hiking, having a great group to champion you along the way made it fun.
The best overland adventure you could ever ask for. Two weeks, 22 people, 6 cars, endless laughs. Sure, the days are long, and you definitely need to bring snacks, but it’s so much fun and the best way to see the parts of Africa that most people don’t go to! And it has everything - beach, nature, pool days, local communities, cities and middle-of-nowhere adventures. I’d even go as far as to say I’d do it again….. never say never!

Absolutely loved Syria! The wander groups just keep getting better! I'm so glad I went (even though Israel and Iran had just started a conflict). I felt safe with Wander, and it was so surreal to be able to be in Syria at this time and still catch a bit of understanding and feeling of what they have gone through since 2011.
This was my first time joining a group trip, and it turned out to be an unforgetable experience!

The whale sharks in Djibouti were incredible but the highlight for me was Eritrea. This country stuck in the past century circa Italian occupation times. A journey back in time
Mongolia is one of those places best explored with a large group as the beautiful landscapes of bare mountains and wide plains are never ending. Long distances to cover and not much to see along the way. A big travel fam makes all the difference

Absolutely unforgettable. Traveling through Central America was so much more than a trip. It was an experience built around connection and shared adventure. From volcano hikes to pyramid sunrises, every destination was stunning, but what truly made it special was the group I shared it with.

The best introduction to this part of the world. West Africa is sometimes called "Africa for beginners". I can see it. Mostly laid back, beautiful coast, incredible sightseeing and smiley locals. Add in the mix the Vodun culture, the colourful dances and thrilling rituals and you have an adventure to remember. Benin has quickly rose to being one of my favourite countries and the expedition family some of my favourite people.
History, history, history! Wow, is all I can say. Libya's recent history has created an isolation from tourism, and made this a relatively untouched Mediterranean gem. The Roman and Phoenician ruins are just mind-blowing. The trip out to the Algerian-Libyan border of The Sahara Desert is long, but well worth it to see Ghadames. Definitely say, "Yes"!
What a hilarious group of explorers who made the long drives fun! The guys were great dancers,too, when faced with rejection by the local females at the bar/dance hall, they had no problem dancing with themselves! Music, song and "car dancing" kept the mood going the whole time. Views were outstanding in The Pamir region.
I really cherish the people I met on my 1st "YES", I said to Afghanistan. It was a small group of very empathetic and adventurous people. We were all nervous at first, until we settled into the pace of our Expedition led by Elena. The people, the lead, the guide and drivers, and the shop keepers were so welcoming and professional. Kindest and most generous people I've met in recent years. I highly recommend everyone visit Afghanistan.

Had an amazing trip to Ghana, Togo, and Benin — loved getting to experience the local side of things away from the usual tourist spots. The group was great too, and I’m still in touch with a few of them! We had some issues with luggage and the wandered team was very helpful to try rectify it.

What a trip! Overlanding this part of the world in not for the faint hearted and challenging logistics make it usually a much longer endeavour. Ghana, Togo & Benin III
The best experience I've ever had. Traveling with Wander Expeditions was terrific. I never thought I would fall in love with the group, everyone was so kind and I feel we connected so much with each other. Moreover, living the Ghana, Togo, and Benin experience was unreal. I learned so much about the culture and I loved the fact I felt I was truly living the African experience.
I would definitely repeat the trip without a doubt! I can't wait to travel again with Wander Expeditions.
Another absolutely amazing itinerary and trip. I have done multiple expeditions and they have always been amazing. The trip is very versatile, with the slave castles in Ghana to the voodoo religion in Togo & Benin - a true eye-opener for this region of the world. I also couldn't have asked for a better group, every carefully selected person was a perfect fit to make this group one of the bests I've had the pleasure to be part of. I would 100% recommend this trip to everyone - it gives the perfect insight to Ghana, Togo & Benin. I will 100% join many more expeditions!
This trip was amazing for my first time visiting Africa! Included multiple safaris, Lake Malawi, and Victoria Falls - but those were only part of the adventure. The time on the road and stopping at local villages as we passed by were made even better thanks our great travel fam, was sad to leave at the end but hope to see everyone again and meet even more friends on future expeditions!!
The Angola expedition had everything you can wish for in an African trip.
We started off with the amazing Victoria Falls, a true wander of nature, then we moved on to Botswana and Namibia where we had amazing safaris seeing a lot of wildlife, and ended up with Angola, the best part and the biggest surprise for me: friendly locals, amazing culture, great landscapes, incredible beaches.
10/10 would recommend joining this trip.

100% This is my second trip with Wander Expedition and I couldn't recommend it enough even if I tried! The itinerary is perfect; the safaris are beautiful, and Victoria Falls is a sight to behold. But, by far the best part of the trip was the travel family I met. Alvaro always manages to bring in an eccentric group of people from all around the world. The ultimate truth is that all the memories you talk back are due to the people you travel with. Cant wait for my 3rd expedition with them!

I can not say enough about this expedition. Wander Expeditions laid out an incredible itinerary, hand picked a fantastic group of people and created an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
The yurt camps, Kok Boru, the landscapes and most of all, the eagle hunt will forever be engrained in my memory as one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

Beautiful experience. The landscapes are absolutely phenomenal and will blow you away. The best part though is the people - I assumed these expeditions attracted avid travelers with a passion for off the beaten path experiences and it was spot on. The group was excellent. There are some general inefficiencies with the itinerary that can be improved upon but I feel like that will be corrected for future trips. I would definitely recommend the Stans if you love the mountains and want a week long trip that you’ll never forget.
An unforgettable experience with Wander Expeditions! I recently came back from stans II expedition from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. We were driving around, yurting, horse riding, eagle hunting and exploring magnificent mountains, waterfalls, canyons, lakes, dunes: - everything what this amazing countries has to offer! All our stops and highlights are still so vivid in my mind. Our trip leader Jose, Alvaro & team have prepared a diverse, fun and a very memorable route. Every small detail was thought through and taken care of. Got the chance to meet few awesome and like minded people who made this trip remarkable. I was following wander expeditions for few years and their off the beaten path trips always entice me. I will surely join other expeditions in future.
Well packed itinerary with authentic activities like Kok Boru and eagle hunting. Stunning and diverse scenery every day. In these countries you can wake up on top of a mountain above 3000 meters, a few hours later get to a forest and by night arrive to a desert.
The wander fam is way cooler than advertised on social media. Every single person I've met on this expedition were people who love to travel in a special way, not like the avarage person.
In conclusion I can highly recommend trying out any wander expedition, especially one in the stans if you are into off the beaten track destionations.
Kenya February 2022 was hands down one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The trip was epic and well planned and jam-packed with different experiences from safari game drives to exploring Nairobi and then ending with the island of Lamu. So many highlights, mainly the people I met who are now friends for life! Looking forward to my next expedition!
What a great expedition! Iran is so underrated and this is a great itinerary if you want a general overview of the country. Be prepared to come out of your expedition with a true travel family and potential future travel buddies. 100% recommend it, just go for it!
I developed the desire to visit Iran from a very young age and now that I’ve finally done it, I couldn’t think of a better crew to experience it with that with Wander. The local guides chosen to accompany us were extremely accommodating, hospitable, and knowledgeable, about Iranian culture, Persian history, and ways to make the experience memorable, educational, and culturally immersive. Not to mention the visa process being handled professionally in a way that will accommodate even US, UK, and Canadian passport holders.
And the expedition truly lives up to the term of “travel families”. A much more memorable experience than you will ever have joining a tour group. I went on this expedition expecting to make friends, instead I came away with a family. One that I can’t wait to see agin soon!
The Iran expeditions was one the most amazing experiences I ever had (till the next expeditions). Iran is an amazing country with amazing culture and people. The itinerary was great and highly recommended to everyone to join this expedition.
An expedition through three very unknown but really amazing countries. From mosques out of Aladdin, landscapes that will leave you speechless, to weird cities like you've never seen before. All this with an amazing group of people!
Admittedly I didn’t know much about the Stans before I joined. I didn’t know the food, landscapes, culture, or customs. But I trusted the process and Wander expeditions to deliver an exciting itinerary. I can’t believe how much I experienced in the twelve days. I loved the family I travelled with and made some life long friends. I highly recommend the Stans and Wander expeditions.
Great expedition! All 3 countries are amazing, each in their own way, and the expedition covers a lot of territory. There's a well put plan in place, that still leaves room for adventure and, even when something unexpected comes up, there's a lot of fun to be had. Trust Alvaro to put the most amazing people together and you've got yourself an awesome experience!

Socotra is one of those once-in-a-lifetime trips! I wouldn't be honest if I would Socotra doesn't have its challenges. The island can be rough at times, that's for sure! But the amazing travel family you spend your time with makes everything 200% better! Socotra is an extremely photogenic place, with Dragonblood and Bottle Trees everywhere, the cliffs from Qalansiyah to Shoab Beach, the infinity pool, the Arher sand dunes. It's a sight to see!
My favourite expedition so far. Both Mali and Burkina are so raw and pure. I went there with low expectations but came out with the best travel family ever and my most unforgettable memories! We experienced all kinds of things. From eating spicy caterpillars to bathing in a waterfall with the locals. Mali and Burkina are something different, but good "different"!
This was my 4th expedition and the best one yet!! Every day was filled with a unique experience and we got the best travel family with an amazing mix of characters, super fun. It was my first land border crossing in Africa and it was such a breeze, the planning was impeccable! Could have been a really rough trip with the heat but accommodations and transportation were top-notch! Thank you Mali and Burkina for your hospitality!
I had an amazing time in Benin with Wander Expeditions! The group was so friendly and welcoming, the itinerary was interesting, and there was never a dull moment anytime during the trip. My favorite part of this specific expedition was getting to experience a real voodoo ritual/dance firsthand!
I have now done a couple expeditions and I know that I can count on having a unique and super fun experience every time. Above all, the best part about this service is that you know everything is taken care of for you so I feel it is definitely money well spent. You don’t have to worry about meals, finding hotels, transportation services, or any of the other hassles traveling may come with. Would definitely recommend to others who are interested in a group travel experience.
A fantastic first experience in West Africa, visiting tribes and villages all over Benin. No tourists, just raw off-the-beaten-path adventure. The highlight was definitely experiencing multiple Voodoo ceremonies and a fetish market - although maybe not for the faint hearted! Seeing the scars of the slave history in Ouidah and Ganvie was also very eye-opening. In pandemic times, the itinerary can change due to new restrictions - be flexible and you'll have an amazing time.
And as always with these trips (this was my second), the real highlight is getting to experience all this with an incredible group of people. Apply and you're sure to meet a great group of like-minded travellers. It will be hard to go back to solo travelling after this!
Travelled with the most amazing group in February 2022 with Stef as our guide. We had a busy first few days travelling around the national parks on our safaris. The day in Nairobi was so interesting and a great contrast to safari. Visiting the island of Lamu was the perfect way to end the trip. We relaxed and enjoyed spending time together. The sunset cruise was my highlight of the trip.
Kenya is an incredible place - make sure you travel to it with the most incredible people… the Wander Fam! 🇰🇪
This expedition is the best of the best, a raw adventure to say the least. In the heart of Africa there lie the most beautiful landscapes I've seen. From the island of Idjwi, where no tourist comes, to the beautiful Masisi Hills. Everyday is a highlight. The group was truly amazing, and couldn't have wished for a better DRC Fam!

Adventure would be an understatement for Socotra. This beautiful Yemeni island is a true paradise, the incredible dragon blood trees and stunning nature are breathtaking. The local crew is amazing, they'd do anything for you and are one of the most hospitable crews I've ever had. Travel in South Sudan is as raw as it gets. Visiting the different tribes around the country was so rewarding because of how difficult the logistics are to get around the world’s newest country. The South Sudan expedition was a true adventure! This country is not an easy one to travel around, but it’s well worth it! What can I say such a great experience met so many cool people along with amazing locals. Chimps, lions,elephants,hippos, the list of animal life goes on. Also got to ride on the back of a motor bike definitely a heart racing experience to end up at a local wedding. Underdressed and a little dirty but still welcomed with open arms to a celebration of a lifetime. If you want not only true lifetime experiences and a new travel family this is why you say YES!
The expedition to Uganda was an amazing experience! Wander expeditions created the best travel family and we had a great time together. The trip itself was a great balance from adventure to sightseeing (the most beautiful animals EVER) and lots and lots of fun. I would recommend it a million times it was a perfect adventure! SAY YES!

We had some of the best time on our expedition to Uganda with Wander Expedition! We had one of the best travel families we could've ever hoped for and it was amazing! There was so much to see and so much wildlife to spot! Amazing! Anyone would've loved it!
Crazy experience to travel through the Mauritanian desert. It was my second expedition and it certainly didn't disappoint. The legendary city of Aleg, crazy star night in Ouadane and of course the craziest train ride in the world "The Iron Ore train". Our luck wasn't the best, with harsh weather conditions on the train, but the amazing group made up for that. If you join expect a lot of driving but crazy scenery and a very raw/authentic experience!
I had an amazing time in Venezuela with Wanderexpeditions! The country is incredible and a new highlight waited almost every day. But what really made the trip were the people. Our group was very international and we had a lot of fun together. I definitely made some good friends here that I will travel with in the future. Do yourself the favor and join a wanderexpedition!
The DRC expedition is amazing! From exploring the Masisi hills, spending the night on Tchegera island, and trekking the gorillas, this trip had so many highlights. It's truly the perfect itinerary for a trip to Africa, I would highly recommend it!

When I saw that Alvaro was going to this destination, I knew I had to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Another amazing group of people showed up and we all had a crazy time getting stranded an extra 4 days due to geopolitics, but like the yes people that we are, we made the most of it and have great stories to tell forever!
Kurdistan was a last-minute switch because we couldn't go to Syria. It was amazing! I learned so much about the region and its history. Our local partner guides were great and Alvaro made sure we saw all the major cities of importance.
The people on the expedition are amazing and I met a life-long friend there and we have since traveled together on another expedition as well as on our own mini group trip.
Get out of your comfort zone and get on one of Alvaro's expeditions. It will change your life!
This was hands down the adventure of a lifetime! Hard to put into words what a transformative experience is sharing 10 days with people of 13 different nationalities. The best part is everything is planned for you, so you just need to show up and start having an incredible time!

Socotra is probably one of the last super raw and pure adventures out there. You should take the chance to explore this secluded island with the Wander fam while it's still off the beaten track. If you're into remote wild camping spots, pristine beaches and beautiful hikes with the best people, you have to say YES to the Socotra expedition. This is the place where you can truly connect with nature and disconnect from the rat race. For me it was the first time joining a group to travel with and to be honest, I was a bit skeptical if this would be something for me. Don't be like me, don't hesitate! With his special selection process Alvaro makes sure that everybody gets along while choosing the perfect mix of people. There's no need to worry. It really feels like family right away and not only during the expedition but even afterwards the Wander family still keeps in touch. I never considered traveling with a group. Now after visiting Socotra with the Wander fam, I just can't wait to join the next expedition.
Venezuela is a wonderful country that truly amazed me. It's nature, beaches, food and landscapes are amazing and you will definitely enjoy them during this expedition. The itinerary was very well arranged along with very knowledgeable local guides that will make you immerse more into the culture. Not to mention that you will meet a new travel family that will make the experience more unique. Don't hesitate and apply to the next Venezuela expedition, a truly worthwhile adventure.
Socotra is a unique island full of endemic species, amazing beaches and magnificent views that await you at the end of a great hike. It's a place where you will fully disconnect from work, meet a new travel family and get to super kind local people that will show you the best areas the island has to offer. I definitely recommend going with Wander expeditions since you can fully enjoy the experience without having to deal with any logistics, visa or bureaucracy. Alvaro makes sure that everything is taken care of for you to live the experience to its fullest. Looking forward to more expeditions in the future!
This trip was amazing! DRC offers many different activities. The volcano hike and the gorillas were definitely the highlights for me. But Tchegera Island and Masisi were beautiful and fun too. Alvaro created a great trip and i can 100 % recommend it.
And the group was amazing too 🤗!
The expedition to DRC organized by Alvaro and Wanderexpeditions was hands down a trip of the life time. This expeditions added value to my life far beyond the 7 days spent on the trip. The true family found amongst the fellow people from around the globe on the trip are now people I cherish in my life. We don’t go long without talking to each other, planning future trips and just living life in a community of like minded people. DRC is definitely a destination worth investing in!
It was such a special trip! I had always dreamt of climbing a volcano, and Alvaro made it happen! Tchegera Island was one of the highlights of the trip, it was such a dreamy island, with amazing views of the volcano, and needless to say, the gorilla trek was very special, to see them up close, and spend a full hour with them! This trip had it all!
This was pure adventure at its finest! After seeing the dragonblood trees in a NatGeo magazine about 10 years ago, it'd been a dream of mine to visit Socotra Island one day, so when I saw Alvaro offering this expedition I had to jump at the rare opportunity! That's the thing, people, you HAVE to act on your impulses when you see these expeditions pop up -- they're truly once in a lifetime! Socotra was incredibly beautiful and unique, and we had an incredible team of locals that took amazing care of us even when sh*t hit the fan and the flight off the island got cancelled unexpectedly due to geopolitics. Alvaro always put the group first and made sure we were all okay over anything else. And luckily he chose a great group of people, I wouldn't have wanted to be stranded on an island with anyone else <3 PS: Getting "stuck" probably won't happen again haha, but it's a fun story and adventure to look back at fondly! I never felt worried since I knew I was in good hands and among great company. Always looking forward to the next expedition!
This spontaneous Kurdistan trip was one of the best! The group was originally set to go to Syria, but when visa issues arose about 2 weeks prior to leaving, Alvaro had a Plan B set up all ready to go and we just had to say yes to a new adventure! He selected an incredible group of people for the trip, and we became a fast family just on the first night. I even met my new-found best friend, and we've traveled to 3 other countries together (one of which was another expedition)! I always traveled solo before going on this expedition since I didn't have friends that liked to travel to off-the-beaten-path destinations, but now I have a group of friends for life. I learned so much history from this region of the world and the itinerary couldn't have been more perfect; Kurdistan was an incredible time and I can't recommend it enough!
Where do I begin… I joined this expedition not exactly sure what to expect, all I knew was that Chernobyl was on my bucket list and Wanderexpedition was offering what seemed to be a cool road trip around Ukraine and Chernobyl was on the list of things to see so I figured why not. Well trip exceeded my expectations. Not only was this the best road trip I’ve ever been on but I met some amazing people I can now call family. Alvaro really pays attention to detail; he has a knack for really picking the right people. You can tell he knows what he’s doing and really goes out of his way to ensure not only our safety but to make sure we’re all enjoying ourselves and gives us an opportunity to always chime in if we want to try something different. He’s always engaging with the group and is really a funny down to earth guy. Thank you Alvaro for organizing this trip can’t wait to join you on the next expedition. Now if only I can decide which one…
Had the best week in the DRC, climbing a volcano, eating chocolate for the first time on a remote island, going to a wedding and delivering a lamb/goat. The best part was seeing gorillas up close and personal- (almost too personal). Would highly recommend this trip

I was part of the second Wander expedition destined for Syria. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks before our trip, we encounter issues with Visas, so rather than calling it quits and canceling the whole thing, Alvaro got straight to work and planned a last-minute trip to Kurdistan. We basically booked everything seven days in advance, and it was a fantastic time.
One of the best experiences in my life, not only because of the destination and its amicable people, but the group Alvaro put together was top notch. I am in contact with every one of them and have a traveling family scattered across the globe.
For me, the best part is the group component and the perfect planning Alvaro does. I don’t have many travel companions interested in farfetched destinations like Syria, Afghanistan, or Kurdistan. So I would have to plan and go by my self which is not ideal. Wander Expeditions gives me the chance to go to these destinations and make long-lasting friends in the process.
I will be joining many more Wander Expeditions in the future!
